The healing power of wieners

So it's been a crappy few days between spending my life studying accounting, bombing the test, then watching fast food nation all while being sick. I've got this severe sore throat and my glands are so swollen one could hardly tell I have a neck. Since I had been bitching at a coworker for coming to work sick, I could hardly do the same thing myself, so I stayed home today and am now harnessing the healing power of wieners.

WIENERS!

Never underestimate the power of wieners when you are not feeling well! Sybil and Ruby have been doing their best to cuddle into me when I'm sleeping and I swear it's working. Well, that and all the copius amounts of nyquil induced sleep.

So incredibly disappointed…

I just finished my first online accounting exam, and I got a C. We had an hour to do 50 accounting questions and that just wasn't enough for me.

I am crushed.

I've read all the text at least twice, done all the homework questions, flipped through the flashcards, did all the practice exams (all 12 of them), read through all the outlines, read through the reviews, watched the instructor provided videos, worked through the instructor provided lecture aids, read all the notes, watched all the textbook provided videos, etc. I have spent around 20 hours on accounting in the last two days and at least 20 during the previous week. I get it, I really do.

And maybe, JUST MAYBE, I'm going a little bit nuts here because I've worked my ass off and didn't even have the opportunity to get a good grade. I've written an email to my professor, but I have a feeling he's going to give me the whole 'oh you've really gotta study hard for an open book exam' spiel.

I think I'm going to put the book away until tomorrow, or I might end up going all Tom on it, light the damn thing on fire, salvaging only the charred remains of the cover and nail it to the door.

Wacky clip art fuels my quest for knowledge

If you thought that course materials in Comic Sanse contributed solely to my feelings of lightheartedness and euphoria where accounting is concerned, you are sorely mistaken. No, it is not the only thing, for I have been truly blessed with some of the best wacky clip art to be found in any accounting class known to man. It is indeed this wacky clip art that really and truly inspires me. Here is a sampling for you so that you may also share in my joy.

Perhaps you think learning accounting is the pits:

Perhaps you think Learning Accounting is THE PITS!

Well, it's not. I mean, especially when you have helpers like:

Net Income Adjusting Elephant

Net Income Adjusting Elephant

or

Click the box Mole

This mole says “CLICK ON THE BOX”

Who really help, but mostly make you really happy, just like:

Creepy Ass Happy Guy

Creepy Ass Happy Guy

When you're in the right frame of mind, you'll be able to master the important concepts:

Ragin' Cajun says Debit means the entry goes on the left

Ragin Cajun says Debits mean Left

and Credit means the entry goes on the right

Ragin Cajus says Credits mean Right

And once you've mastered the concepts, caricatures of famous musicians will say:

Famous Musician Characatures say:

And this is why you should never spend more than five hours at once studying accounting. Back to work.

Accounting for Masochists

So I'm taking a grad level accounting class in 5 weeks over the summer. I'll have an exam each week, lots of homework, and lots of studying to do since I know next to nothing about accounting.

All of the course materials are in Comic Sans.

If you don't hear from me or if I'm a little anti-social for the next month or so, you know why. At least it'll all be over for my birthday.

I have a golden ticket!

I've got a golden ticket and it's a golden day! *does a little softshoe around the living room*

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Although I did pre-order my Deathly Hallows from Amazon, I could hardly wait until the 4:00pm average Saturday arrival time of our Postal Service person. Last night I got a pink NintendoDS with a BestBuy gift card that's been burning in my pocket for around 2 months (and I liked Tom's so much, I didn't want to fight him over his), so I wasn't up for any midnight HPDH hunting, rather much SuperMario-ing. A coworker and I were conspiring yesterday about where to get a book in the event that ours didn't arrive until late today and she tipped me off to the grocery stores having them for sale, so this morning, I awoke around 6:30 am out of anticipation and headed out. Four grocery stores later, I have my book and am settling in to read it - two stores didn't carry it (although it was in the flyer) one store was sold out and the fourth and final store did have it, but was guarding them behind the customer service counter, having sold almost all of the 4 boxes of books they received by 7:30am (which was when I got there).

Now here I am, golden book in hand, doggies on my lap, ready to read. And I won't come out till it's over, over here.

If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.

Check it out and leave a comment!

this is also my test of "scribefire" a firefox plug in.  I think I like it.

NO DECEMBERISTS FOR YOU!

I'm so damn incredibly devoted to my studies that I'm missing a FREE (as in beer) Decemberists concert in Millenium park. Did I mention that I work 3 blocks from there and could've easily gone right after work? Did I also mention that my classroom is 1 block away? Oh, but no, I'm here, in a classroom, waiting for class to start, so that I can get my final-exam review on...

I better get a damn A+ for participation.

Two Degrees. Two. Masters. of. Science. Two.

So I discovered today on my school's website, this little tidbit about a new masters degree in Information Systems Project Management. Right now, I'm working on my MS in Information Systems with a project management focus. Now, I'm trying to figure out if I can get not one, but two masters degrees. If they'll let me, I plan on changing my focus to enterprise systems implementation, IT regulatory compliance, or knowledge management and graduate with the MSIS. Then, I'll come back, do another year (because so many of the classes that I've already taken or am signed up for are on the MSITPM req.) and get the second degree. I'm actually quite excited about it. Let's hope that my evil plot will work out. muahahahaha!

My Smash Brothers, let me show you them.

Last weekend was the annual gathering of Tom's college friends (who have called themselves 'the cadre') at Bryan's family cottage on lake Erie to play Super Smash Brothers (n64 only), wax nostalgic about the good ole days, play more video games, hang around and chat, have a campfire, go swimming, and generally have a good time. And we did.

I generally enjoyed myself, as I normally do, although this year I brought the wrong needles and couldn't knit on my geeky knitting project which was knitty's binary. Alas, I kept myself entertained by playing a bit of smash brothers myself, finishing the last harry potter book, playing elite beat agents on Nick's DS (it's like ddr for your hands!) and getting a good deal of sleep. I always enjoy hanging out with the cadre guys.

As it turns out, Tom and I both liked the elite beat agents so much that he bought a DS on the way home. Unfortunately, he chose to go with the white and not the pink one; it's his money along with a copy of EBA. I think he's got electroplankton on the way too - which seems like quite an interesting little game where the goal is to create digital music. !!!! Oh Nintendo, how I love thee...
