So I’ll be married in 9 days…
I've been a little reluctant about talking about the wedding, but don't worry people, it is still happening. It's just that this damn event is taking up all of my extra thought processes not devoted to critical life functions, work, and school. Things are finally starting to fall into place, thankfully, so now I'm not so stresed about it and able to talk about it a little in my spare time (ha).If you know me at all, you know that I'm not the kind of girl to dote on "the happiest day of my life." Personally, I resent the idea that my wedding day will be so climactic that nothing will ever compare... ever. Screw that. I'm sure it'll be great, but if that's it then there's something wrong with the way that I'm living my life. There's all the feminist stuff I'm dealing with as well as the difficulty of being an overweight bride with boxy, wide feet. There's also the simple fact that I fucking hate wedding planning.
Fortunately for me, Tom and I have pared down the wedding so that the actual day, ceremony, etc will be very small - about 30 people total. This not only makes it much cheaper, but also more intimate and a hell of a lot easier to plan. Still, we want to celebrate with our friends and families so we'll be having 3 extra receptions, one in Chicago, one in Ohio, and one in Florida. It works out really well for everyone: we don't have to spend 50k on a big city wedding, our friends and families don't have to travel cross country to stay in Chicago on easter weekend - we all still get to celebrate. People call this "win - win," but I call it "HOORAY I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT LINENS, CENTERPIECES AND SEATING ARRANGEMENTS!"
Still with the small wedding, there is a lot of stuff to be done. We're meeting with the minister of the UU church where the ceremony is on Sunday and we still need to write up our vows, plan out the ceremony, and finalize the readings and music. Other than that, we're pretty set. Everyone has their outfits, including the puppies. The reception is set. The hair and beauty stuff is set. There will be a Wii based slide show. There will even be a spectacular video game themed wedding cake which I will leave as a surprise. Oh, and you already know that our photographer is brilliant, so our pictures are sure to be fantastic.
On tuesday, Tom and I went to a Wedding Ring Workshop and made our wedding bands for each other. We used any one of 3 separate blow torches, forging our TWO RINGS THAT WILL RULE THEM ALL!!! Well, at least us, because our rings truly do RULE. They turned out really well, not amateurish but not too professional looking either. So far, in this whole wedding planning process, I have enjoyed the ring making the most.
All in all, this is turning out to be a very geeky affair. Very Us. As it should be. Believe you me, I'll be so glad when I don't have to worry about it anymore and the Honeymoon in Belize will assuredly be fantastic.

In love with LUSH
I've been familiar with LUSH for quite some time, but I always felt that I couldn't do beauty with only nature's ingredients. My skin was in need of serious help, and harsh chemicals. Hell, even mild chemicals weren't cutting it for me. And yes, I wanted the stuff to be incredibly effective, andd I wanted it to be cheap. I could care less about anything else. Little did I know. Then awhile ago, I was doing my daily blog reading, including lay-c.com where a discussion on face products that work , including all natural face products, was going on. Somebody linked to this place, which totally intrigued me and freaked me out at the same time. After reading about how my current regime was totally toxic (I'm addicted to you, moisturizer, don'tchya know that you're toxic), mooching some cream from Lura, smelling Carla's godiva bar in my bathroom all weekend when she visited, and stopping by the LUSH display while in Macy's, three straight days in a row (I know - I'm a horrible Chicagoan), I figured I'd go and give it a try. I could resist no longer.
So I went. I bought. I used the products. I'm in love. I'm a believer. Then I went back for more. Twice. Here's what I got:
- A shload of Bath bombs
- A few bubble bars
- lemslip buttercream
- Flying Fox and WHOOSH temple balms
- Seanick and Godiva solid shampoos
- Jungle solid hair conditioner
- Angels on Bare Skin facial exfoliator
- Fresh Farmacy facial cleanser
- Imperialis moisturizer
- Enchanted eye cream
- Ultrabland cleanser (for makeup removal)
- Helping Hands handcream
- Love Lettuce and Crash Course in Skincare fresh face masks
And for purchasing so much (don't worry, I didn't get all of it at once, but my first trip was a biggie) I received a bunch of winter and holiday gifties, soaps, shower gel, bath bombs, etc. I also got a bunch of samples which included shower jellies, deoderants, freshface masks, shaving cream. I didn't like the jellies and deoderants. I loved the fresh face masks, and the shaving cream was just aight for the dog.
Some things to note about Lush products:
- They all smell incredibly good - omg.
- They are all natural and handmade. Yay.
- Unlike a lot of other all natural and handmade products, they actually do what they say they do and well.
- They have a strict no testing on animals policy
- Having such products that work well is *awesome*
Seriously though, I'm certainly not the kind of girl to go on about bath and beauty products. This stuff is amazing. You should check it out. If it might be a bit too hippy-ish for you, just get some soap or a bath bomb. You'll love it. I gar-own-tee.

“now you want to take me to drink some tea at a donkey show or whatever?”
This is the funniest thing I've read in a long timeOh man. I do love Wendy Mcclure, her book, her blog, and especially her local author appearances at the book cellar (and who doesn't absolutely LOVE the book cellar). Shylo Bisnett is also obviously very funny, but I'm not so familiar with her work. This article is brilliant, hands down.
Update: I also read the first installment of the Cortney story. Oh man. You gotta read it too. Complete with slutty doll picture goodness.
Oh and John McCain's myspace page kerfluffle is also priceless, nee brilliant.

Death / Rape threats are not protected speech.
I support Kathy SierraWhile I'm no stranger to the occasional flame war and while I completely understand the urge to photoshop a mustache and horns on someone's profile picture, I'm completely shocked and appalled that there exist people so threatened by a woman in tech that they go as far as issuing multiple threats of violence against her. WTF people. What is wrong with you? I mean, express whatever dumbass views that you'd like, but Jee-zus tap dancing christ on a cracker, there is a LINE that you do NOT cross. This is completely unacceptable. This aggression will not stand, man.

Switching things around a bit
I'm in the process of moving hosts. Since the inception of kristyland, my home on the IntarWEB has been courtesy of mattopia. However, it's time for me to move on and stop mooching off of matt, especially since I have my own dreamhost account. I've got a few more things to setup, but that shouldn't take very long. Stay tuned.
