SHE’S ALIVE!!!!
One could say that recently I've been, well, disconnected - from news, from reading daily blogs, from email, and most certainly from making updates on this blog. The whole comment spam thing really has me down, and Tom and I really haven't had much of a chance to whip kristyland into a kindler, gentler, word press form. That, and with my recent discovery of cascade 220 and felting my fingers have been more occupied by knitting needles than by the keyboard. Alas, here is a low down and dirty update of the past however long it's been since I last updatedChristmas was crazy, but since I'm awesome at it I managed to get Tom myself and the puppies to OK and, imho, some really cool presents for people. A pc for my mom, Wii for Tom, 14 books (in combined effort with Tom) for my step brother Lawrence to fuel his new foray into reading for fun, 6gb of music for gramma's new mp3 player, fuzzy woolen slippers for grampa, and others.
My biggest accomplishment of the season was finding a rental car in Chicago the friday before xmas. BTW, if you live far enough away, enterprise does NOT pick you up. Those lying bastards.
With the help of master knitter Gramma, I've begun what I like to call a knitter's right of passage, knitting socks. Now, if you have ever heard tale of the interactions in my family, you may understand that this process wasn't the easiest for Gramma and I, but eventually, we were able to stop yelling long enough for me to start knitting much better with teeny tiny dpns and fingerweight yarn. One could say I turned a corner, or rather a heel (knitting / political humor, yeah it's bad)
Tom and I both drove down to OK in the prized rental car, but T had to be back at work before I did, so I drove the 11 hour car trip back by myself. I mooched a bit off of my mom's audible account and ended up listening to the first half of 'a man's search for meaning,' while interesting started to be more soothing (although disturbing) than enlightening and therefor unfit for such a long drive. Fortunately, I got one of those blue tooth things for xmas and was able to get Tom to talk me into Chicago.
New Years was fun - we went to a friends house and played with Tom's wii (tee hee) and rocked out with guitar hero. Right before midnight, we went on the roof of the warehouse converted to condo building and was able to see 4 distinct sets of fireworks acrossed the city in addition to all the little neighborhood displays. Then we played guitar hero to the wee hours of the morning - a great way to ring in the new year. Of course, there was much eating of the corned beef and cabbage, black eyed peas and collard greens on new years day.
Today, I must put my knitting needles down and go back to work...

Kristy I love love love the new layout! And I’m so proud of you and your resolutions. I go to a Y here in Houston and really like it a lot despite the fact that the building is a million years old. I mean, not that a gym can be “ethical” I guess, but the Y seemed the most “ethical” and friendly of the gyms I looked at. I belonged to 24 Hour Fitness for about 2 months and just felt like the Y offered so much more–especially for women. There’s even a women’s only gym in the Y I go to (that was the selling point)! Good luck lady, don’t go too crazy…make attainable goals and do it. Piece o cake.
