Kristyland news update
I'm going to be in Philadelphia later today through saturday for this conference. Anybody have any 'cool places to go in Philly' recommendations?First, though, I'm going into work, where my laptop better be waiting for me courtesy of UPS. If not, there will be hell to pay.

Lenovo - you sadistic commie bastards!
The other day I got a shipping confirmation email from Lenovo. Thinking that it was my laptop on the way from China, I got all excited and giddy. Hooray! My laptop! I might even get it before the Equal Justice Conference that I'm attending next week (in philadelphia). I could tote it around and it would be all light and I could take notes and it would be SO AWESOME!So I click on the tracking details only to find that Lenovo, in their sick little sadistic twisted way, is only sending me the free backpack, the discounted tablet sleeve and the extra digitizer pen that I ordered. Conspicuously missing from the order IS THE GODDAMN LAPTOP!
Lenovo, why ya gotta hate? What kind of fuckingly cruel is that to do to a person? I mean, I know I got free shipping and all, but it would actually save you money and help me to curb this wrath a bit if you actually sent all my shit together in one package.
Fuckers.

You know what I really can’t stand?
I really can't stand being talked to like I know nothing. I hate it even more when people tell me shit that I know is not true, and even though I argue with them, I concede because I lack confidence in what I know. THEN I find out that I'm right anyway. That shit really drives me nuts - and it makes me feel like crap... Goddamn, why can't a girl catch a fucking break sometimes.

I got an A in both of my classes this quarter. I've still got a 4.0 at DePaul :)

I’m not quite sure how to feel
I just spent a good chunk of money on a Thinkpad x41 tablet.I'm excited because I'm getting a new awesome laptop, but I feel really strangely about having spent almost $1900 on a laptop. I've never spent that much money on a computer for myself - this is the most expensive thing I've purchased since I bought my car!

You and I have witness many things, but nothing as bodacious as what just happened…
Instead of the regularly scheduled "What. The. Fuck. Is. Wrong. With. You. People." post, I offer a brief summary of kristyland current events. I find that it is much easier for me to keep my head from exploding if I ignore a majority of what is going on in the world from time to time. Moving on.It's been a pretty good week! I went to the stereolab show, did some spring cleaning and now have a clean closet, got an A, lost 6.8 pounds, etc. About the stereolab show - Tom and I were looking for a place to sit, and in a forced move to make me decide, I chose two seats in the balcony. As Tom goes to get a beer, I look over, and there sits someone I work with. WOAH! Although I have, in the past, run into some work folks at concert events, it has only ever happened once before - so it's quite startling when it does happen. We all chatted it up for awhile including much chiding of the opening act, Espers, that while having a cool name, couldn't have been more wrong to open a stereolab show. They were like prog rock meets post rock at the ren faire. Yeah, and we all learned a valuable less that indeed sometimes tomorrow does in fact never come. Thanks Espers, I'm sure I would've lived my life not knowing that one.
Last saturday (before the stereolab show) it was 60+ degrees outside and Tom and I headed to lincoln square for some shopping and general wandering around. I bought a most excellent messenger bag, some dachshund buttons, a harness for Ruby (she was walking out of her old one), a new collar for Sybil (a fabric one, to see if that helps her bald little chest), and the new stitch and bitch book "The Happy Hooker," which is about crochet.
Wednesday night I had my last final, and I'm not quite sure how it went. Really, I can barely remember the last part of the exam because I had made the mistake of getting all of my WW required water in shortly before the exam, and then also drinking a 20 oz coffee. My eyes were turning yellow, so I did my best to answer a few questions and then high tailed it out of there. I had an A going into the exam, but when an exam is 40% of your grade, all kinds of things can happen. Hopefully some of my extra credit work will count. If not, oh well, it was a prereq course and doesn't count against my GPA anyway.
I also received a bunch of stuff in the mail - my ebay items including about 24 pairs of bamboo needles, some circular needles, and some older aluminum very tiny needles (0,1,2,3). I ordered some recycled silk sari yarn too that I'm looking forward to getting as well!
Also - our tickets to Lollapalooza came in. I had been on their mailing list from the previous year, and was privy to a pre-linup announcement sale of tickets for $45 a piece. Naturally, I jumped on the opportunity thinking that if the lineup did suck, or we didn't want to go, we could always sell the tickets for at least double what they're worth. There were only 3000 available and I managed to snag 2. As it turns out, Lollapalooza isn't going to suck this year. I'm sort of excited at the lineup, which looks pretty good! Tom also received the Pitchfork tickets, which is the weekend before lolla, and the weekend before that is Intonation. So July-August will be happy music fun time for us.
Yesterday there were reports that Chicago was going to get dumped on with 5-6 inches of snow, so Tom and I had planned a "FUCK WINTER" picnic in our living room. On the way home, we stopped at whole foods and managed to find a slice of watermelon, some corn on the cob, some strawberries, and other related fixins. We made burgers on the George Foreman, turned up the heat, put on some shorts, spread out the hello kitty blanket on the floor, and made ourselves comfortable in the summer-like (or as close to it as we could get) environment. Of course, the puppies had to stay in the kitchen because it would've been near impossible for us to have a picnic with the puppies there. We searched for some summer like entertainment and seeing as we don't own Dazed and Confused (a truly summer film, but probably one we're better off not owning), we popped in "Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure." I had forgotten how brilliant this movie is.
Bill: Socrates - "The only true wisdom consists of knowing you know nothing".
Ted: That's us, dude.
Anyway, our little picnic last night was a lot of fun, and I'm really looking forward to getting out and about again once the winter weather is over. Chicago may have shitty winters, but spring summer and fall here ROCK.
OH - and I also did my taxes and will be receiving a refund, which I hadn't planned on and is a nice little surprise. Also, my student loan refund should be coming in soon, so maybe I will get that x41 laptop afterall. Lenovo *is* having a St. Patty's day sale...
Speaking of which, I've got the crock pot all geared up with the corned beef, cabbage, onions, potatos, and carrots all very well seasoned and spiced, soaking in vinegar, beef broth, Murphy's Stout and whiskey. MmmMMMmmBitch! When we cleaned out the closet last weekend, I found my "Irish" beads, so I'll be wearing those today along with my green stereolab shirt :) It's the least I can do to honor my 1/4 Irish heritage!
Be excellent to each other and Party on!

Week 1 of weight watchers went very well - I lost 6.8 pounds!"where's your phone"
"I left it at home"
"BECAUSE IT'S LAME?!?!?"

I am so SMRT!
I got an "A" in my first, real, bonafide grad class, Business Continuity and Disaster recovery. I am awesome! Now, the plan is to get an A in every other class, which shouldn't be that difficult given that I'm now only taking one class a quarter. Then, I can graduate with awesome grades and go get another fancy degree at a top 10 school somewhere (two of which are in Chicago, maybe a nonprofit mba? law school? p.h.d in basketweaving?) and thus override my mediocre BGSU grades. w00t!
