The procrastination dance is your chance to do the procrasty crastination

So the last thing I want to do right now is homework. All I wanna do is knit - I'm completely, head over heels, in love with this handspun yarn. It feels so good to knit with and it looks so cool too. AND IT IS RAINBOW!!! Seriously folks, handspun is t3h new h0tness, so look forward to seeing me with much of it, digging to find an air hole from within my massive yarn stash that threatens to take over our tiny 1 bedroom (What Sybil? Kristy's caught in a mine shaft? *bark bark* Ohh No! That's much worse! She's caught in the yarn stash! duh duh duhhhhh). Don't tell Tom, but that's the *real* reason I want to move into a 2 bedroom, so that I can get more yarn. So - it's good that I've rediscovered my love for knitting. AND I'm almost done with those bunny hats - two more inner ears to go and assembly and they will be DONE! Don't worry folks, I'm going to try very very hard not to become a yarn snob. I still heart acrylics and I wear my redheart rainbow scarf daily, with much pride.

Last night after class, I picked up a copy of the PostSecret book. If you haven't checked this out, you really should. This guy who was really into post cards got a blog and distributed a bunch of cards that invited people to share a secret on a post card and mail it to him. He got a bunch of post cards, still does, and then shares them as an art exhibit, in his book, but mostly on the blog. I believe there are new post cards weekly. I've often thought about sending in secrets as I'm sure there's something incredibly freeing about releasing your secret into the wild. I've even thought of card layout, what I would say, but I can never pick just one. And what if mine never got picked? Anyway, the book is incredible - go buy it now.

The Russian Mafia needs to get its collective shit together and fix its payment site so that I can download more DRM-free but legal mp3z for pennies on the dollar. I'm hooked and I need my fix you bastards!

Okay, I really gotta do this homework - *le sigh*

In your satin tights, fighting for your rights, and the old red white and blue!

Is it just me or does the wonder woman theme song make you want to dance? Oh wonder woman, stop a war with love? Thankfully, we've come a long way since you were prime time.

Me, on the other hand, I'm more of a madwoman than a wonderwoman. I took on this project this weekend, details of which I won't mention to protect myself and the innocent, that planted me firmly in front of the computer and sometimes on the couch with Tom's laptop for a good majority of the weekend and it all needs to be done by tomorrow. Thankfully, I've got like one more thing to do and then I have to move all the stuff. I also have a huge homework assignment due wednesday, a final due sunday, 2 classes to attend, all kinds of shit to do at work, puppies to train, boyfriends to feed... Like most modern women, I've got a lot on my plate.

I think I'll be able to get everything done, more project fun over lunch, homework this evening, homework on lunch wednesday, class wednesday night. For my sake, Im probably going to chill out thursday night and then start on my final Friday night, continue saturday, and finish up sunday afternoon. Maybe sometime on saturday I'll get to do something fun, but I'm not quite sure.

Although this last weekend, I got to do a few fun things - Tom and I watched Manufacturing Consent and got all riled up and pissed off. I love these documentaries and learning about all these things I previously did not know, but I hate getting all angry and cranky and then feeling like there's not much I can do - especially when I've got all this other shit I want to do. Oh dilemma! Well, the world is just going to have to wait at least until next week if it wants any saving by me.

Sunday, I went to my friend Lacey's Ayaam-i-ha yarn exchange, which was a whole lot of fun. You can FGI but the short story is that it's the Baha'i gift giving holidy. Her friends are incredibly nice (I got to meet the local celeb Cinnamon Cooper who also gave me a ride home in her sweet ride, a prius) and I got some hand spun, koolaid died yarn, a few skeins of a celery green and one skein of rainbow, a pretty flower made of yarn that I promptly put on the lapel of my coat, and some softy yellow yarn from Lacey that Im going to knit up into something good one of these days. Shout out to Lacey! w00t! Lacey! I will have you over sometime after finals week when I can once resume my social life. Much DDR-ing will occur.

Experiments in life and tempera-cha

Last week was an interesting one, indeed. Monday, Eric, Nick (the guys in my department) and I headed down to Chinatown for some lunchtime dim sum. I don't think I had ever had *real* dim sum before and I was quite impressed. Everything was really tasty and I even attempted to eat the chicken feet, although they were a real pain in the ass and not much was gained after you were finally able to get the slippery lil suckers to stay in your chopsticks long enough so that you could chew on them a bit. It was a good time, and Eric (who is 1st gen Chinese-American and can speak Cantonese) paid, even though I offered to pay for lunch. I wonder if I had paid if the price would be different? I guess we'll never know :) Still it was cheap, a feast for 3 for around 26 bucks. I heart ethnic food!

Tuesday was valentines day. After much debate over what we were going to give each other, Tom and I decided to go to some fancy Chicago restaurant and then split the tab, paying each other's half. Upon recommendation of my boss and others, Tom and I went to Topolobampo. This is a Rick Bayless restaurant, and he's got this smooth talking pbs show and sometimes ends up on Iron Chef America. His show "Mexico, One plate at a time," is kind of like something I would imagine Bob Ross doing, if Bob Ross ended up being a Mexican chef instead of an artist. The last episode that I watched was about the lucha libre, which I found incredibly entertaining. Anyway, Tom and I rolled up to topolobampo in a cab after work and were seated right away. The topolo part of the two restaurants (topolobampo and frontera grill) is kind of small, but very classy. We both started out with some drinks, a mojito with notes of ginger and habanera for me, a classic topolo margarita for Tom. After not much deliberation, we decided to go with the Chef's tasting menu with the wine pairings:

Uchepos de Huitlacoche Gratinados - fresh corn tamales filled with inky corn mushroom under a cap of chilaca chile cream and two cheeses; citrusy watercress-frise salad.

2004 "Walla Voila" Chenin Blanc, L'ecole No. 41

Walla Walla, Washington

Chileatole Verde con Dos Ostiones - savory tomatillo soup with crispy fresh oysters.

2004 Parxet, Marqus de Alella, Alella, Spain

Langosta con Crema de Quelites - Maine lobster with a creamy sauce of wild Mexican greens.

2002 Brancott B Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand

Puerco en Mole Guerrerense - grill-roasted Maple Creek pork in Enriques moms mole.

2003 Ridge Dusi Ranch Zinfandel, Paso Robles, California

Best-of-the-day dessert sampler - warm honey-spice cake, chocolate tart with caramelized plantains, toasted coconut-sour cream ice cream, bittersweet chocolate sauce.

2002 Von Hvel Oberemmeler Htte, Riesling Eiswein, Mosel Saar Ruwer, Germany

Somewhere in there I also had a 'magical margarita' which had rose water and rose blossoms in it that tasted, um, beautiful and Tom had a mezcal margarita that despite it's earthy and smokey taste, was bright pink. Rick Bayless himself showed up in the dining room and made his way around to the various important people tables (i.e. not ours). So that gave me the idea, since he was there, that he could autograph one of his cookbooks and personalize it to my mother, who collects such things. I got the salsa book, since my mom and step dad make garden fresh salsa, I figured they would enjoy that.

After all that food, came the bill, so it was good that we had a bunch of wine and liquor because it was expensive, but absolutely worth it. It is rare to have an absolute perfect meal, but this was one of those meals. Everything matched, the flow was great, the food to die for, and well, it was just as it should be, but better. We caught a cab home and tried to recover from the meal.

Then, at 3 am, my computer decided to update itself and reboot, there by also playing the windows shutdown sound REALLY LOUDLY and waking me up. And I couldn't get back to sleep. I tried for about an hour, but had no luck. So I worked on some homework and played on the internet, although I knew that the day would suck and I would feel like ass. I was tired and not feeling so well in the evening, so I decided to skip class and stay a little later at work, go home, and call it a night. Sitting around in my office, chatting with Mary and Eric, I decided to google Julius Sumner Miller who was another PBS favorite from my childhood. I found this, a collection of videos of his show when it was on ABC and still in black and white. Upon further searching I found this tribute and this tribute. I was so tickled, but Mary and Eric had no idea who I was talking about. Oh how they've missed out! Why? Because Physics is what physicists do! He is Julius Sumner Miller, and Physics is his business!

Thursday I got really really sick in the afternoon. First I was feeling sort of motion sick, sitting in my office, working on my computer... Then I got nauseous and then heavy and then barfy. Tom had to leave work early to pick me up and take me home. I was in bad shape and I took friday off too. I can't tell you how therapeutic it is to take naps with the puppies, but it is.

Oh and Friday, our friends Jodie and Aysha, who own the local pet supply store and also walk Ruby and Sybil had their baby on on Friday! He's a healthy little boy named Logan Lucas, otherwise known as L.L. Cool Baby. Congratulations!!!! I still have to finish that damn bunny hat, but I'm almost done! I swear!

Saturday I was feeling enough better to eat some pancakes from the ravenswood. Later that night, since it was so incredibly cold outside, Tom picked up some takeout from Uno di Martino and we watched the godfather, which I had never seen before, drank wine and port and really enjoyed ourselves. Which is good because Tom got really sick, having picked up whatever I had earlier in the week and mistakenly thought was some sort of food poisening. He was in bad shape on Sunday and ended up taking Monday off. Fortunately, he was able to get in a few naps with the puppies and was feeling better in no time.

Yesterday I woke up in the morning and there was no heat. Fortunately we had hot water, so we were able to shower and go to work. I called the apt people and they came to the apartment to fix stuff. Then, later that afternoon, I get a call from Jodie, who was there to walk the dogs, who told me that the apt people had gone into the kitchen and stuff was everywhere and the dogs were really upset. So Tom and I got home, and not only did we still have no heat, but we also had no pipes under the sink. Fabulous. We scooped up the puppies and headed to Ruby's first training class. I had forgotten that we weren't supposed to bring the puppies, but it was cold and we were cold so oh well.

What is today, wednesday?

Describe yourself in six words or less

Somebody automated the Johari window and put it online. I go pick a few words that describe myself from a predetermined set of words. Then I ask my friends to go describe me. Then we all contrast and compare - It's very much the 'hot or not' of group dynamics and psychology.

So... Go and tell me what you think. Participate in this little experience. You love to do the participating :)

I am not a bipolar trixie pimp

Yesterday as I was walking to the train in my ankle length fake fur coat, with my hair all done up, wearing a skirt with calf boots and my pink and rhinestone trixie sunglasses that remind me of those that gilda radner wore in the jewess jeans commercial on snl, listening to my pink ipod in its pink leather and rhinestone case, (yes there's more) carrying 2 large ikea bags full of expertly designed swedish lamps and art for my office, I hoped desperately that people weren't judging me; I certainly looked like a trixie pimp. Now perhaps if I had a top hat and a cane, I could've been more pimp, or if I had a Coach purse, a copy of cosmo in hand, and also had been in the middle of a loud, inane cell phone conversation, I could've been more trixie. But fortunately, I represented the best of both worlds and therefore transcended both.

I've been on this up and down cycle where I first feel so inadequate and I get all self critical. Then I get some sort of bug up my ass that makes it to my brain to tell me that my life is pretty damn good and that I'm on the up and up (which is really true, thanks bug!). So to avoid the downward part of this spiral, today, on valentines day, I'm starting a Love yourself campaign. Why should I be so self-critical when I've got so much to be proud of? True, there's always room for self improvement, and I'm certainly hellbent on constantly improving myself. There really is no such thing as perfection, so why is it that I always find myself pointing my goals at it? WTF?

So Happy St. Valentines Day - go and love yourself, and try to stretch that philosophy beyond masturbation - do something good for yourself. Be happy with where you are and what you have. Be proud of who you are and what you've become.

Today, I got up early and exercised. I feel great! I'm not ass tired like I usually am in the morning and it looks as if today is going to be a wonderful day.

Love yourself!

And curse Sir Walter Raleigh he was such a stupid git

I haven't been this tired in a long time, and I'm so glad that it's almost the weekend.

I did get that palm TX, but I'm running into some general problems with being used to using a pocketPC pda and now am using a palmOS pda. I did find a program called graffiti anywhere that will allow me to use my whole screen to write instead of bringing up the silkscreen - which I hate and was the main reason I hated palm. I guess I've just got to get used to using it, although, in palm's defence, it syncs really well with my pc. I haven't had a chance to use either yet, but it also has wireless and bluetooth. I'm sure that will come in handy. This weekend my plan is to clean up my inbox at work, review my task list and calendar and sync that and a few important files up to the be pda. I'm going to be organized like a muthafucker!

So now I have the pda, I was going to join weight watchers and get all hooked up with the etools. But then I was reflecting upon the last two weeks and decided that perhaps I should wait until mid March when things will slow down a bit. Am I out of my fucking mind? I can't join WW right now and have that to worry about along with everything else - I'm doomed to failure! Plus it will be tres easier to exercise with nicer weather - and I'll be walking the puppies twice a day, so that'll help too.

Oh speaking of the puppies, post surgery Ruby is a whole new dog. She was always shy, slow moving, and reserved, but now she's outgoing, wagging all the time, sniffing around and generally much much happier. I bet she was in a lot of pain and probably had an infection or two. Now, she's just as sweet as ever times a hojillion. I'm glad we were able to get her all fixed up, pardon my pun.

Kristyland, a hotbed of ter’rist activity

A quick check of my site stats shows not only another hit from cifa.mil, but it's a hit from cifa.mil that is a link from a "cifa.mil" google search. Also of note - try searching for just cifa.mil without the quotes and see what happens.

What.the.fuck.is.wrong.with.you.people.

Stop wasting my tax dollars by getting all big brother on American bloggers. If you gotta eavesdrop on someone, here's an idea... And hear me out on this one... How about you spend less time on infringing upon the civil rights of the American public, conducting warrantless wiretaps and searches, arresting mothers of sons who were killed iraq for wearing anti-bush tshirts, and - yes I know I'm reaching far for this one - go listen to someone else who may be actually connected to terrorist activites instead of people who just disagree with your bullshit.

I believe the words of one of our fearless puppet masters are appropriate here...

FUCK OFF

Dachshunds gone wild

WOOOOOOO!

***I'll update this area with the whole story after I finish my homework***

Surprise surprise, Ruby is back home less 9 teeth, plus an additional 6 that were worked on and considered to be borderline. Some of her teeth were so rotten, they had ossified with her jaw and had to be drilled out. Yeah, and 3 vets said her teeth were fine. I'm glad that I insisted on a reexamination by the thorough doctor. I didn't have to be a vet to tell you that her rotten breath and teeth with holes between the tooth and gum meant that she had something wrong with her teeth.

We had some xrays taken of her as well, after her swelling / neck pain /rushed to the ER vet on sunday night only to be absolutely fine when the vet came in to examine her incident. Nothing too bad showed up on the xray, but there are a few things that we need to keep our eyes on.

I shouldn't be shocked, I know. It does make me a little ticked off though. My poor puppy!
