Microsoft to world: Fuck you, what are you going to do about it?
Microsoft says: Prove it!Hopefully all of you got your fully legal, $10 copies of windows xp through the 'why pirate when you can get a legal copy for $10' software program at BG. Normally, implementing a program where a valid license is required for windows update wouldn't bother me. My copy is legal, so personally I'm not too worried about it. However, I'm a network administrator by day, and I'm fairly certain that a former employee(s) have taken my Open Charity licensing software keys for their own use. So when I go to update ABLE and LAWO's network computers and servers, it will most likely only allow a certain number of unique computers to update, leaving me with a huge mess on my hands. If you've ever dealt with Microsoft licensing before, you're fully aware of the complete mindfuck it can be. Let's just say that I'm not looking forward to this at all.

Blue bracelent dilemma
Everyone's got those fancy "live strong" yellow bracelets. They're so popular that the dems decided to jump on the bandwagon and make some Blue bracelets. Problem is, as is always, there are about 5 different campaigns for the blue bracelet and about 5 different blue bracelets. *sigh*Moving on. I want to get one of these blue bracelets, but I don't know which one yet. What do you think?
How Blue are you? (Oh, I'm *so* blue)
Don't blame Us (don't worry, we don't)

See! Now look what you’ve done!
Ohio's Anti-Gay ammendment used in defense of domestic violence chargesWe *so* told you people that this shit would happen, and now it has. Just think of that, fundie religious right, when your daughter, who is living in sin with her baby's daddy, is beaten to within an inch of her life and this ammendment that you campaigned for is used to dismiss D.V. charges. Perhaps you thumped your bible a little too hard this time, don't you think?

Not a new year’s resolution
I am so proud of myself.I joined Weight Watchers on thursday, and I've exercised every day for a week (minus thursday, because I was joining WW). Thanks to the lifestyles membership that my mom got me for xmas, I'm lifting weights and I've worked myself up to 45 continuous minutes on the elliptical trainer when I never thought I could get past 10 minutes. I never thought that I would enjoy exercise, but armed with a magazine, my mp3 player and workout mix, and comfy workout clothes, it turns into enjoyable time to myself. It makes me feel good and confident about myself. Believe me, if you go do 45 minutes on the elliptical, you may get a little sweaty and out of breath, but you'll feel like a sexy bitch who can conquer the world.
Weight watchers really appeals to my inner geek. They have this great website where I can put my food diary, track points, get recipes and other info, plus all the support, success stories, and motivation I may need at any point in the day. Oddly enough, I know the guys who designed the weight watchers website, and they do a good majority of the Legal Services websites in the country; makes me feel good about using the website. Now they have etools for your pda. Unfortunately, my PDA was stolen, so now I'm looking for a decently priced palm that has graffiti 2 or jot (no silkscreen). My biggest gripe with palm has always been that silkscreen that takes up so much screen real estate. Now, they don't have the silkscreen anymore, but they're still ass expensive. I'm hoping to encorporate a pda into some sort of incentive scheme. There's a clie that I really like, and I almost bought one on Ebay, but it's still around $300-$400 bucks. Ouch!
Later today, I plan on heading out to the coffee shop to chart out my goals, objectives, and develop an inexpensive incentive structure (which is really important for me). I might post those on kristyland, and I might not. This whole deal is mainly for me, so I don't know if I'll share or not. I know I'm going to have my good days and my bad. I know my biggest obstacles will be getting over my compulsive overeating habits and sticking with the program. I know that it's going to take awhile to get to my ultimate goals, but really, it needs to be done. I've got a family history of all kinds of illnesses that obesity increases my risk of getting. Life as an obese person really sucks in more ways than many can understand or want to know. I'm tired of it, and I'm doing something about it. I've done some pretty amazing shit for other people lately and now it's time to work on me.
As my family, friends and readers of kristyland, I'm going to need your help. This whole deal isn't going to be easy, and I won't be able to do it alone. Please be understanding of my plight. I may be busy working on myself, either at the gym, at a WW meeting, or elsewehere, so I may be more unavailable than normal. If you want me to go out for burgers or a night of drunken debauchery, please give me some advance notice so that I can save up WW points. Going on a ww doesn't mean that I have to give up nights out and dinners on the town, but it does mean that I have to plan for them. Understand that this is a lifestyle change, and I'm not going to change overnight. I just have to keep up what I'm doing, and I'll be alright.

2004, my journal’s year in review
So I stole this idea from Kerrie, who stole it from someone else, who stole it from someone else, and so on and so on. Like Microsoft has proven, every great idea deserves to be stolen, so here goes...2004: A year in review, as told by the subject line of the first post of each month from the last year:
1. *sigh*
- My feelings regarding selling my soul to my workplace.
2. Would you just shut the hell up?
- My response to the religious right regarding gay marriage. Why are they still talking? Equal protection under the law mean anything to you people?
3. Help is on the way!
- I just hired Will, yay!
4. Anti-April 1
- I wasn't feeling creative on April fool's day to come up with a good prank, so I boycotted.
5. ...
- Surprise! I'm cranky and depressed again!
6. This year's surgery is...
- Carpal Tunnel surgery, in case you were curious
7. The Choice is clear
- Evaluation on the technology used by presidential candidates websites. Kerry had an apache site, bush had an IIS site.
8. Too pooped to post
- Worn out from the Kerry Rally in BG, what a day!
9. The onion publishes a real news article, 3 1/2 years too late.
10. Another survey ganked from Kerrie
- Just when you thought I was just a thief, you find I'm also addicted to online surveys! Ohhh the shame!
11. VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!
- Election day... *sigh*
12. When you wish upon a starrrrrr....
- Taking down the wishlist to discourage consumerism and encourage "the thought" part of gift giving.
Here's to another year of blogging on kristyland!

Back to bid’ness
executive summary of xmas break:Saturday the 18th, I woke up early after the night out at ann arbor so that I would have enough time to finish the MOAS (mother of all scarves) for Joe's present. Knitting all morning and sewing together the edges, I was able to finish the scarf in time for a quick lunch, a shower, and a drive to Powell to see Joe. Seeing Joe is always a joy, and this day was no exception. After chatting for a bit after our initial arrival, Joe, Tom and I opened presents! Joe got the recently finished MOAS, Tom got a Family Guy DVD (the wicked sweet collection), and I got... wait for it... The Ultimate SUSHI KIT! It came with all of the stuff needed to make sushi, minus the fish and veggies. Not only is this a really awesome gift, since Tom and I love sushi, but it also has this picture of a guy on front that is hilarious. He's got this "i can't believe i'm making sushi" look on his face that's about ready to explode from him smiling too much. Classic! Dinner followed presents, where we saw some really drunk dude sitting at the bar, drunk dialing on his cell phone, drinking a large cup of coffee before his drive home. After dinner, we went shopping at the Andersons where Tom and I, in usual fashion, spent way too much money on specialty beers and some sake to go with the sushi kit. Joe had to work that morning and was getting rightfully sleepy, so Tom and I left fairly early for home. Yay for visits with Joe! I didn't make a whole bunch of friends at BG, but the ones I did make, like Joe, are really incredible.
The monday following, I went back into work on my day off to be at a farewell luncheon for one of my coworkers and to play santa kristy to my pals at work. Tuesday, also another day off, I rode into work early with Ed, did a videoconference on a pika training, and then Tom took me to the airport. I was off to OK for a few uneventful flights.
Although Bartlesville, OK isn't the most ideal place on earth to spend your holidays, Christmas this year was really nice and low key. I was introduced to the birthday cake as a christmas decoration, only present in the yards of the most devout baptists. I had a good time hanging out with my step brother, knitting with gramma, watching tv with grampa, cooking with Mom, and commenting on TV with uncle Jackie. Larry, my step-dad, was pretty grumpy my entire stay and spent much of his time in the bedroom pouting. He had just had some roto-rooter surgery on his sinuses and on top of that was missing two of his kids at christmas, who would've been there under normal circumstances. No wonder he was grumpy. Despite all that he managed to have what seemed to be an enjoyable time at christmas with the rest of us. Good times had by all, even Mr. Grumpy. After much cooking, knitting, hanging out, relaxing, watching movies, and driving back and forth to Tulsa, I packed up all my stuff and went home. Tom picked me up and I was very happy to see him again. There was much more chillin' at the apartment and hanging out with friends until New Year's Eve.
Jay had invited us over to do New Years Jay style, which included a lot of wine, incredible gourmet food, story telling and smartass remarks. Jay, Kerrie and Baxter had been working for a really long time before we got there at 7pm, and I felt really bad that we hadn't contributed much other than the bottle of champagne (which came up missing, but we found later). But Jay told us that we weren't to bring anything or do anything, and you know what they say about too many cooks. Anyway, the everything was excellent (my coworkers were so impressed when I described the event) and it turned out to be a wonderful night. Exchanging gifts, Tom and I got a sushi book, two small henkels knives with a cutting board, and a large chef's veggie sushi knife. What a great compliment to the ultimate sushi kit! Unfortunately, Kerrie wasn't feeling too well after an incident with some of Jay's port glazed walnuts, so Tom and I left shortly after the ball drop (they replaced dick clark with Regis? wtf man.. wtf!). The next morning, we slept in a lot. Sunday, in sever new years resolution mode, we started to clean the house. Yeah, we're still cleaning, but we did get a lot accomplished. *le sigh*
I went back to work Monday, and after much effort, was able to motivate myself to get some work done, despite having this nasty cold, again. Tuesday night, Tom, Schutze, Briana and I moved this huge dining table from the house of a coworker who is moving to Iowa to Schutze and Briana's house, which although tiring for mainly Tom and Schutze, was a lot of fun. Then there was the ice storm, and working from home on wednesday and then again today. I'm still pretty much down with the nasty cold... so bring on the NyQuil!
I've done a lot of reflection for the new year, which I'll cover in a different post. I've also realized that there's no way for you guys to see the kristyland archives, so maybe I'll set something up for that too. Do I really want you all to see my sordid past? Probably not. Mostly, I'm tired of typing for now.
