Now watch this drive…

I just bought Tom and I tickets to the 7:30pm showing of Fahrenheit 9/11 for Friday June, 25 at the Showcase Cinema in Maumee. I've got 2 seats left in the Rav4 so if you'd like to join us, let me know. I suggest you purchase your tickets in advance because the Maumee Showcase is one of the only theaters in Northwest Ohio showing the flick.

So I got this email….

Every once in awhile, I get a friendly email with updates about my sorority. Don't get me wrong, I had a good time in my sorority, but sometimes, I'm just really dumbfounded by some of the stuff that these people come up with. Yeah, I know what you're thinking... You think "but Kristy, you're talking about a *sorority* and you know what they are like..."

Yeah, well... My sorority wasn't like that. When I joined it, it was a group of down to earth girls who got good grades, did a lot for the community, were genuine and truly good leaders. I wouldn't join your typical sorority. Eventually though, after I had graduated, it sort of went down hill and they lost recruitment. They went to the alumnae for help. Take that back, they went to the alumnae who had been out of the chapters 5 years or more for help. Since I had been out of the chapter for 3, I wasn't allowed to play. Whatever... anyway, they got a lot of older alumnae support and all is well now. Another year passes and it's time to do recruitment again...

So I get this email detailing the recruitment process and asking for help. This year the theme is "Breakfast at Tiffany's" displaying Tiffany blue bid day shirts with charm bracelets on the back saying "if found, return to AOII", french manicured nails, black cocktail dresses, updo's, and authentic Tiffany charm bracelets. Don't get me wrong, I do like Tiffany blue (similar to the kristyland background). I also like Tiffany jewelry. I don't have any, but hey, I don't have very much jewelry. That's not the point.

It just seems to me that nothing screams "SORORITY FULL OF MATERIALISTIC RICH GIRLS" than a recruitment with a prestigious jewelry manufacturer as the theme... Call me crazy. Maybe I've become more charitable in my old age and tenure at a legal aid organization. Perhaps the reasons that attracted me to this sorority don't mesh at all with this new image that the chapter is now trying to pursue. I used to pride being a member of an atypical sorority. Perhaps I'm scared now that this about face will turn what I once called home into something that looks more like a shop full of barbies with nothing much upstairs and the shining silver glimmer of a charm bracelet in everyone's eyes...

Foreign Policy according to Jane / John Q Public

These folks took some survey results and turned them into an interview with an "average American," asking this person about various topics on foreign policy. It's quite an interesting interview, and not a perspective one often sees.

Check it out.

Put the man in the ground already…

Reagan died at 93, after 10 years of alzheimers. It's not a shock to anybody, and he's not some fucking hero. I take that back, he might have been your hero if you're a multi-millionaire, but I don't weep for the rich. Regardless, get over it, put him in the ground, and go on with some real news coverage. For Christ's sake...

Why isn't anyone talking about Ray Charles? He was much more of a positive influence on America than Reagan was. He even made it to 73 which is quite rare for a black man since most of them don't make it into their 60's. But, since some old white asshole died, the media ignores the death of someone who actually contributed something to society.

This year’s surgery is…

Years and years of typing with no problems... One year at ABLE, and I've got carpal tunnel. Fabulous. I've scheduled the surgery for my right hand for July 8th at the buttcrack of dawn. We'll see how the right one goes and possibly go back for the left. Yeah, i've got it in both hands.

The surgery is outpatient and only a total of about 15 minutes. They'll drug me up nice and good, put me on local anasthetic, drain all the blood out of my arm, put a tourniquet on me, and get to work. They'll make two tiny incisions in my hand, cut up a tendon in there, and decompress my nerve. Badabing Badaboom, no more carpal tunnel. I'm a huge wuss, so fortunately for me, my Mommy will be coming into town on the 7th to hold my left hand.

I obviously made a blunder in scheduling my surgery for the 8th, with the Journey concert on the 7th. If anyone of you go, pick up a tshirt for me :)

Hopefully, if all goes well, I'll be back in business for work on the following Monday, and a camping trip for the following weekend. Wish me luck.
