Not without my PowerPuff Girls Mug!

So last wednesday was quite a trip. Ed, my boss, and I headed down to columbus for a day full of beggin' the rich lawyer types for money. I came along as sort of an insurance policy to make sure that the laptop worked and got an IP when we needed to do our demos. I usually drive for these sort of things, but Ed just got a sweet new ride (a matrix, *does bend over backward dodging bullets thing*) and my car needed to get a little TLC from the toyota dealership, so he drove. On the way down, I Ed not only told me that Farm Aid was going to be in Columbus in september, but that tickets were going on sale soon! I'll talk more about farm aid in a bit.

We got to the Columbus Bar Association and I proceeded to set up the equipment for the demo. We were way early, so I didn't think we'd have a problem... For some odd reason, they had port 3389 blocked and couldnt get around it. The IT manager down there had some wierd sort of proprietary router software that I couldn't quite get the jist of. After a bit of tinkering, she ended up bringing all of external routing down, including port 80, and didn't have a backup. I thought how could someone not back their shit up before doing something like that, but then karma got me back this weekend when I wrote over my comments file. Fortunately for me, I was able to rewrite my stuff, but I don't know how or when the CBA problem was resolved. We ended up using a modem connection to get to our terminal server, which worked although slowly.

After a few minutes of Columbus Bar fun, I tromped all the way over to the Rhoades building where the Ohio Supreme Court is located. I had an appointment with my pal Chief Justice Moyer later on in the afternoon... Well, I didn't have the appointment, I was just there to set up the equipment, but it makes me feel important to say that I was meeting up with my pal, Chief :) If it makes you feel better about the security in the building, they wouldn't let me past because they had never heard of any Chief Justice Moyer... yeah...

So I got past the first security checkpoint and proceeded to the second checkpoint where they ran my stuff through a metal detector, checked my id, and gave me a red visitors badge (everyone else I was with who came later got a green badge, but I so closely fit the profile of a terrorist that I got the red badge, so people would know to watch out for me... I'm that dangerous...)

I headed up to the third floor where the meeting was going to be held and where they have red carpet with the supreme court seals on it... I want seals in my carpet and I'm not talking about animals here. Maybe if all my friends become notarys like they plan, we can stamp the carpet... Anyway, I got up there, went to the conference room and started hooking the stuff up. One of the IT folks came by, gave me an IP outside of the firewall, and boom I was done. So I was there an hour and a half early (granted it took me a good 25 minutes to get through security) and so I did some checking of the email. Being the posh conference room that it was, it was stocked with a wide variety of beverages, with a full line up of coke products including diet cherry coke (!). It's good to be the Chief! I helped myself to a diet cherry coke as the rest of the crew started to show up. One thing that I did notice, my powerpuff girl mug had come up missing.... *gasp* I couldn't worry about it now, Chief was on his way...

Although not out of my element, I was certainly out of place. I happened to be the only female and about 20 years younger than everyone in the room... and I was there to make sure shit worked.... Ha. They all had a conversation about their golf games, and the hippy festival in columbus that weekend. I really didn't say much or do any presenting, but I did make sure to smile big and give Chief a few hearty handshakes (my handshake is nothing to mess with) for thanks. Oh yeah, there's another thing that I hate. One of the dudes there gave me this half assed wimp handshake. I hate it when people do that... I saw him shake all the other folks hands and it was a full handshake... Maybe I was looking too dangerous and he didnt want me to do any judo moves on him or something, it definitely couldn't have been that he was daintying out on me...

After it was all over I put all the stuff away and we headed down to the security checkpoint where I noticed that I had left my powerpuf girls mug. I made a joke about it to the security guard but he didn't find it all that funny. I made sure to grab the mug, because I didn't want to have to call Chief up and have him send it to me.... Ed mentioned that I was the first person in history to almost leave my powerpuff girl mug at the Chief's office... I guess he's right :)

The ride home was uneventful, had a good chat with Ed, got to read a little of the 5th harry potter book (which I finished last weekend, good read, I recommend it). When I got home later that evening, I orchestrated a Farm Aid ticket purchase as a birthday present for me from my mom. Since Tom is too cool to go, My friend Joe is coming with me instead :) Funny thing is, Ed got tickets too, 5 seats away from mine :) Farm Aid here we come!

Well, so far…

The new and improved (*ding*) kristyland is almost in full effect. I managed to write over my journal comments file, so I'll have to rewrite that... and start remembering to back things up before I tinker... If you want to tell me what you think, you'll just have to email me now :)

I've got a new photo viewer up, but I haven't been able to apply my template to it quite yet. I'll be working on that so you may or may not be able to get to the pictures section.

How ya like them apples?

Under Construction

Expect some big changes to kristyland fairly soon... and oh yeah, the picture links are all broken. Sorry.

Some Enchanted Evening

This weekend was incredible... I've been working very hard at trying to relax, and have actually made some progress. If some of you know me well, you'll also know that I have a hard time sitting still, relaxing, or essentially doing nothing. It's almost impossible for me to do especially when there's work to be done, around the house, for my job, books to read, computers to work on, etc.

Friday night, Jay had a shindig at his house, cooked a timballo and had an oddly traditional evening, where the "womern" retreated to the porch after dinner and the men went out back. Food was incredible as always, great conversations as always, and then home to bed, sleep is good too.

Saturday, I helped Tom shave his head, and he looks like quite the badass. We both got dressed up for a nice date that Tom was planning. I bought the perfect dress on sale and had no place to wear it to, so Tom promised that he would take me out on a proper night on the town. We went out to dinner at Navy Bistro in Toledo, where we sat on the patio outside in the incredible weather. We had an amazing meal, watched the sunset, listened to the live music, talked about all kinds of stuff. We were going to go to Jazz Fest, but it was packed and I wasn't able to do much walking. As we were leaving, we were stuck in some traffic on the Cherry Street bridge as a large boat went by, so we rolled down the windows and enjoyed 20 or so minutes of jazzfest from the car.

Despite construction, we managed our way to the Bronze Boar for a few drinks and maybe a cigar. After we plopped down on the comfy couches and ordered up a drink, we caught a great view of the after game fireworks above fifth third field. I knew the mudhens were good for something! After the game, the bar started to fill up with some people and a zany group joined us on the couch. They ended up being really cool, giving Tom cigars, and one of the guys was a senior Network Engineer for Volkswagon / Audi. I'm a goddamn geek magnet, I swear. We started up a convo on the cisco 1700 series.. it was grand :) The ladies in the group shared my affinity for belvedere martini's, up, slightly dirty, but they liked theirs with blue cheese olives, which I had never had. Really cool folks. Tom got me some nice scotch and by the time I was all liquored up and sleepy, we headed home.

Sunday, we started the morning at SamB's for bruch with Jay. Samb's does do an excellent breakfast. In the afternoon, Tom and I went on the hunt for some decent computer reading material for him and I ended up buying the new Harry Potter book (at least I got it 40% off). We were going to go to city park to enjoy a picnic and reading in the shade, but there were about 8 million family reunions with matching bratty kids, so we headed to quiet carter park instead. There were some bugs, so we headed home. It was a great day for a barbecue, so we invited Nick and GT over for brats, burgers, and chu chu rocket. The video game banter is always hilarious, and I got to read my harry potter book while the boys played games (we only have 3 dreamcast controllers).

As far as the relaxing thing goes... I made a major stride last night: I took a bubble bath. To many this may seem trivial, but to me it was quite an event. See, I always hated bubble baths. What fun was a bath if you didn't have toys to play with or people to splash? I always ended up cold, without water, and bored. Last night, though, I managed to keep myself entertained with a little home mani / pedi, the Norah Jones cd, and some very nicely scented bath and body works bubbles. Quite enjoyable and I had such a euphoric feeling afterwards, drying off and relaxing in bed with none other than the behemoth of a book that which is the 5th harry potter.

I needed to prepare myself for what was to come on Wednesday, and I did a good job of it.

Progressively Geekier

Alright... I am an extreme geek. There is no denying it...

In an effort to see how truly geeky I am, I retook The Geek Test. This time, I eliminated all the "maybe, well sorta" answers and was completely honest. Somehow, I got geekier...

I stand for Peace and Justice

I stand for democracy and autonomy. I dont think the U.S. or any other country should ignore the popular will and violate and weaken international law, seeking to bully and bribe votes in the Security Council.

I stand for internationalism. I oppose any nation spreading an ever expanding network of military bases around the world and producing an arsenal unparalleled in the world.

I stand for equity. I dont think the U.S. or any other country should seek empire. I dont think the U.S. ought to control Middle Eastern oil on behalf of U.S. corporations and as a wedge to gain political control over other countries.

I stand for freedom. I oppose brutal regimes in Iraq and elsewhere but I also oppose the new doctrine of "preventive war," which guarantees permanent and very dangerous conflict, and is the reason why the U.S. is now regarded as the major threat to peace in much of the world. I stand for a democratic foreign policy that supports popular opposition to imperialism, dictatorship, and political fundamentalism in all its forms.

I stand for solidarity. I stand for and with all the poor and the excluded. Despite massive disinformation millions oppose unjust, illegal, immoral war, and I want to add my voice to theirs. I stand with moral leaders all over the world, with world labor, and with the huge majority of the populations of countries throughout the world.

I stand for diversity. I stand for an end to racism directed against immigrants and people of color. I stand for an end to repression at home and abroad.

I stand for peace. I stand against this war and against the conditions, mentalities, and institutions that breed and nurture war and injustice.

I stand for sustainability. I stand against the destruction of forests, soil, water, environmental resources, and biodiversity on which all life depends.

I stand for justice. I stand against economic, political, and cultural institutions that promote a rat race mentality, huge economic and power inequalities, corporate domination even unto sweatshop and slave labor, racism, and gender and sexual hierarchies.

I stand for a policy that redirects the money used for war and military spending to provide healthcare, education, housing, and jobs.

I stand for a world whose political, economic, and social institutions foster solidarity, promote equity, maximize participation, celebrate diversity, and encourage full democracy.

I stand for peace and justice and, more, I pledge to work for peace and justice."
